Confounding Towers: Tackling Technology in the Home
Confounding Towers: Tackling Technology in the Home is a two-hour online workshop for parents. It is not a class on parental controls. Controls on their own do not work. I got around every control my high school put on my laptop so I could play games in class, and your kids are no different. The workshop teaches a way of deciding how technology is used in your home that your family will actually live by.
Online session
Online, two hours, four modules. Date to be announced.
What you will learn
- A simple framework for making technology decisions at home.
- How to look honestly at your own technology use before you set rules for your kids.
- How to set expectations that fit each child.
- How to write rules and controls that fit your family.
Who it is for
Parents.
Where it comes from
The course takes the framework from The Great Confounding Tower and applies it to technology in the home.
How the session runs
Four thirty-minute modules, live online, each with a short exercise.
- Why technology matters. Is it a tool or a lifestyle? How apps and AI companions hold attention, and why teaching works better than correcting.
- Your own technology use. Lead yourself first. What your own use is doing for you, and what to do when you slip.
- Your child. Temperament, what a child can handle at their age, and why kids reach for technology.
- Your family technology plan. Where risk gets into a home, rules versus controls, and a starter plan.
What you leave with
A written starter plan for your home and a date thirty days out to review it.
